"To mark this birthday, I have chosen a selection of works for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, Henri Dutilleux and Zoltán Kodály, pieces that I have played many times and that have always inspired me, as well as a work by Javier Martínez Campos as an encore. This young Spanish composer and cellist dedicated the piece to me, drawing on a perfume based on the scents of the Orient as his inspiration. This collection also includes some of my happiest musical memories over the past 20 years, on stage and in the studio, which I have carefully chosen for you." – Gautier Capuçon

Gautier Capuçon – Einaudi: Una Mattina (Official Music Video)
Gautier Capuçon – Einaudi: Una Mattina (Official Music Video)

The melody of Ludovico Einaudi's piano composition "Una mattina" is given to cello in this rendition by Gautier Capuçon, with pianist Jérôme Ducros. Conceptualized and designed by The Great Paper Massacre (Matteo Cozzo), a graduate of the Istituto Europeo di Design, this animated video was created using the "collaging" technique.

"Collaging is my favorite technique," the designer explains. "It has two layers of expression: the subjects represented and the texture of the source materials and the overwork, which can work together to convey an infinite number of emotions and tell a story on multiple levels. ... Using the flat layers of paper to mimic a three-dimensional space gives the sense of a diorama, or a little cardboard theatre: the video takes the form of a small, abstract play, amplyfing themes and giving space to metaphors and wonder."

Universally recognised as the finest cellist of his generation, Gautier Capuçon has a firm reputation as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Following on the 2015 live recording of the Shostakovich Cello Concertos, this album sees Gautier return to the studio with his friend and recital partner of many years, Frank Braley, in a programme of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Cello and Piano. In addition the album includes Beethoven’s wonderful variations on three different themes – two on arias from Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflöte, and the other from Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus. This is the first new recording of the complete Beethoven cello works for some time and is a long-awaited release.

Following their autumn 2007 release of Brahmss Double Concerto and Clarinet Quintet Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon further their plan to record the composers complete solo and chamber works for their label. After Renauds collaboration with Nicholas Angelich for the violin sonatas, later joined by Gautier for the piano trios, French violist Gérard Caussé joined them in Lugano last December to record Brahms three Piano Quartets. The mid-priced set brings together on two CDs all three of Brahms piano quartets, which although they were composed at the same time (even though Op. 62 was first performed in 1875), are very different in character and mood, from a lighter and more poetic nature in the first 2, opus, to a darker more sombre atmosphere in Op. 60.

Gabriela Montero & Gautier Capucon - Rachmaninov & Prokofiev
Gabriela Montero & Gautier Capucon - Rachmaninov & Prokofiev

Album available on: http://bit.ly/Rachmaninov-Prokofiev
https://www.facebook.com/GautierCapucon.OfficialPage

French artist Gautier Capucon and Venezuelan artist Gabriela Montero meet in this programme of works for cello and piano by Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. The sonatas were composed 48 years apart and each composer only wrote one such work each - yet the programme brings forth the two composers similarities, just as it brings out the similar musical sensibilities of the two young performers featured. When Gabriela and Gautier met in Lugano, under the aegis of Martha Argerich, a great friendship and an exciting musical partnership was born. Their encounter brought forth a series of concerts and it was then decided to record this programme of Russian music.

Gautier Capuçon and Yuja Wang perform Le Grand Tango (Piazzolla)
Gautier Capuçon and Yuja Wang perform Le Grand Tango (Piazzolla)

In spring 2019, Gautier Capuçon joined musical forces with Yuja Wang in a multi-city tour across North America – and in the studio for a captivating duo recording. The album culminates in Le Grand Tango, dedicated to Rostropovich by Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla. Discover here: https://wce.lnk.to/fcLY

The program, centered on works by Chopin and Franck, features two works by Chopin, his Sonata in A Major and his Polonaise brillante in C Major, and Franck’s Sonata in A Major, a transcription by the 19th century cellist Jules Delsart of the Belgian composer’s glorious violin sonata.

Video recorded at The Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall, Toronto, Canada.

Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Frank Braley – Beethoven: Piano Trio No. 7 "Archduke": II.

French superstar musicians Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, and Frank Braley form a trio unlike any other. They unite once again for an album of two of Beethoven's most stunning chamber works: https://w.lnk.to/ptLY

“Together, all three musicians have the quality that is the most priceless of all in playing chamber music – they listen intently to each other and always take note of what they do,” wrote the Guardian. The release, a highlight of the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven, showcases the composer's Archduke and The Ghost piano trios.

Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, Frank Braley – Beethoven: Piano Trio No. 7 "Archduke": III.

Beethoven's "Archduke" and "Ghost" trios bring a fabulous trio back together again: Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon, and Frank Braley. Listen to the recording: https://w.lnk.to/ptLY

Beethoven dedicated the ‘Archduke’ – a grandly conceived, but engaging work that was first performed in 1814 – to his patron (and composition student) Archduke Rudolf of Austria. Wrote The Guardian of this trio's performance of the piece live in 2011: "Their account of the Archduke Trio was less imposingly grand than some, almost intimately conversational at times, without any details over-emphasised. It still had a tremendous sense of organic coherence, as if carved from a single creative block, with its heart firmly located in the great set of variations that form the slow movement."
