They also present a work they themselves have composed jointly: The Thoughts of Dr. May, inspired by Brian May, lead guitarist of the rock band Queen. “This day has been a long time coming,” she says. “We’ve wanted to record this … most important repertoire for trumpet and piano since we started playing together more than 10 years ago.”

Alison Balsom - Caprice

"Caprice", Alison Balsom's third album for EMI Classics includes of transcriptions of well-known classics especially written for -- and in many cases by -- Alison herself. One of Alison Balsom's musical ambitions is to widen the repertoire for her instrument, following in the footsteps of the great trumpet legend Maurice Andre. The new album showcases her beautifully pure trumpet sound, and includes popular favourites such as Bellini's Casta Diva, Mozart's 'Queen of the Night' aria, as well as sexy and edgy arrangements of works by Piazzola and de Falla.

Alison Balsom - Bach works for Trumpet

Alison Balsom explores Bach's chamber works for all kinds of instruments and voice types. He composed little chamber music for the trumpet but it is his great choral works which contain the most varied and demanding repertoire for the instrument prior to the 19th century. None of the works on this disc were originally conceived for the trumpet and Alison has arranged much of the repertoire for trumpet and organ or baroque ensemble. As exemplified by material selected for this new disc, Alison is particularly committed to expanding the repertoire available for her instrument.
